Are You Considering Counselling? Let’s Explore Psychodynamic Approach

If you’re here, you may be searching for a way to understand yourself, to heal, bloom, and create lasting change in your life through choices made from deep freedom of self-knowledge. The Psychodynamic approach is a compassionate, and transformative one that fosters growth and responsibility. Beyond addressing symptoms; it’s about uncovering the roots of your struggles, understanding the patterns that shape your relationships, and fostering a sense of wholeness and connection within yourself and with others from developing a reflective mind that will accompany you even after the process has ended.

The Psychodynamic approach is rooted in the belief that our past experiences, relationships, and unconscious mind profoundly influence who we are today, even in ways we may not remember or be aware of. By exploring these layers together, we can shed light to these parts of yourself. This process isn’t fast, it has its own timing—it’s about creating a safe, intimate space where you can truly be seen, heard and understood so that you can bloom into the person you want to be, with greater self-awareness, freedom and responsibility.

Who Can Benefit from the Psychodynamic approach?

In short, anyone. The Psychodynamic approach is for those who are ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing. It’s for those who feel stuck in patterns they can’t quite understand, who long for deeper connections with themselves and others, or who want to make sense of the emotions and experiences. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, low mood, relationship challenges, or simply seeking a richer, more meaningful life, this approach can help.

Unlike approaches that focus solely on symptom relief, the psychodynamic approach is about more than just “feeling better.” It’s about understanding, together with your counsellor, *why* you feel the way you do and creating lasting change from the inside out, so that you can take action and make choices that work for you. Together, in a collaborating process, we’ll explore your past and present, your hopes and fears, how you experience yourself and the others, your desires and struggles, so you can develop a mind that can set boundaries between what’s fantasy from reality, to avoid confusion, differentiate memories from the present moment, discriminate your mind from the mind of others, to become more grounded, move forward with greater clarity, agency, and peace.

What Does the Psychodynamic approach Look Like?

The Psychodynamic approach is a deeply personal and collaborative process. It’s a space to check in with yourself, and taking the time to explore what’s beneath the surface. In our sessions, we’ll talk about what’s happening in your life right now, but we’ll also delve into the emotions, memories, and relationships that have shaped you, and we’ll approach these areas with curiosity and compassion, not judgment.

You’ll also have the opportunity to explore your relationship with me, your counsellor. This relationship can be a powerful tool for understanding how you relate to others and yourself. It’s a space where you can practice new ways of connecting, communicating, and resolving conflicts—all within a safe and supportive environment.

What Will We Explore Together?

In the psychodynamic approach, we’ll explore the full spectrum of your experiences. This might include:

  • Past experiences: How your history has shaped your beliefs, fears, and reactions.
  • Emotions: How you relate to your feelings and how they influence your life.
  • Relationships: The dynamics that play out in your connections with others.
  • Patterns: The recurring themes in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
  • Dreams and fantasies: The hidden desires and fears that may be guiding your actions.
  • Culture and identity: How your background and values influence your sense of self.

We’ll also focus on the defenses you’ve developed to protect yourself from pain. While these defenses may have served you in the past, they may now be limiting your ability to live fully. Together, we’ll gently uncover these layers, allowing you to experience greater freedom and authenticity.

How Can The Psychodynamic Approach Help You Grow?

Through this work, you can expect to:

  • Gain deeper insight into yourself and your relationships.
  • Develop greater emotional flexibility and resilience.
  • Understand old patterns that no longer serve you.
  • Build a stronger sense of agency and self-compassion.
  • Take better care of yourself.
  • Create a life that feels more aligned with your values and desires.

This process isn’t always easy, but it’s deeply rewarding. It’s about learning to sit with discomfort, to embrace uncertainty, and to trust in your ability to heal and grow.

A Unique Path to Healing

Group Counselling can be just as impactful as individual; it simply offers a different methodology and experience. We require a minimum of 5 participants and a maximum of 8 to start the sessions, which will take place within walking distance of the La Almudena metro station (red line) on Monday evenings, from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM. What is Psychodynamic Group Counselling?

Psychodynamic Group Counselling operates on principles similar to individual counselling, with the unique aspect of sharing the healing process among group members. Participants engage in open conversation without a fixed agenda, allowing the counsellor to highlight underlying themes that emerge. This setting provides a valuable opportunity to enhance self-awareness and understand how relational patterns manifest in group dynamics. The groups are ‘open rolling,’ meaning that individuals can join or leave at any time.

Art based Educational Workshops

Weather in private practice or in organizational settings, immerse yourself in a transformative learning experience within a group of peers. Use art as a tool to access parts of yourself you are not usually aware of. Reflect and integrate them into your daily life, improve your wellbeing and freedom of choice.

Art based workshops are more than just creating art—it’s a profound and transformative form of healing that uses the creative process to explore emotions, heal wounds, and foster self-discovery. At its heart, art based workshops are about connection: the connection between you and your inner world, between you and your counsellor, and between your experiences and the art you create. It’s not about being an artist or creating something “beautiful.” It’s about using art as a language—a way to express what words alone cannot capture.

How Does Art Based Workshops Work?

The process of creating is just as important as the final product. Your counsellor will guide you through this journey, offering support and insight as you explore your inner world. Together, you’ll identify personal goals and use art as a way to reflect on your experiences, emotions, and relationships

Art based counsellors are trained to meet you where you are, both emotionally and creatively. They’ll thoughtfully suggest materials and techniques that resonate with your needs, but the focus is always on your experience. There’s no right or wrong way to create in art therapy, and no one will analyze your artwork to “decode” your struggles. Instead, your therapist will help you explore the meaning behind your creations, uncovering insights that feel authentic and meaningful to you.

Through this process, you’ll develop tools for self-reflection, mindfulness, and emotional regulation. Artmaking can serve as a metaphor for life—how you approach a blank canvas, navigate challenges, or experiment with colours and shapes can reveal patterns and perspectives that extend far beyond the studio.
